Monday, 02 March 2009 at 05:40 The well I saw in Shieldwall's garden reminded me of my past. As a young orphan, I had the luck to be brought to the monastery and they were kind enough to provide me all things necessary to survive and even educate me. It wasn't allways easy though. Being in the monastery meant following strict rules and to take absolute care in every task, every action, every move. And so I remember being called to the Abbot for punishment after spilling water from one of the heavy buckets I had to carry from the well to the kitchen. I remember the rod strokes all too well, but I must admit I never spilt a drop of water again.
To strive for perfection in one's actions, to take care in everything one does, it is a lesson hard to learn. Nevertheless it causes me to reflect not only but also after my actions. Should I have done things another way. Should I do things in another way in the future.
As I think back of the well it makes me wonder wether I should be more strict to the young initiate under my care, so that they can learn the lesson to strive for care and perfection in their actions as well?
