The Journal of King Deek
The journal is made of finest vellum, and gives off a warm scent, while the quality of the work is tangible under the fingers. The cover is of thick, quality dark leather, with he Royal Seal of valorn embossed into it, and the words "Deek Rex Valornis" are faintly visible beneath it.

Yesterday was probably one of the most trying and nervous times of my stay in Valorn, as it was the first time I was seen in public with my partner, the lady Vardian. I was nervous as I didn't really know how this would go and I had no real control over things - and I was worried that Vardian wouldn't be able to handle the pressure.

To my relief Vardian took it like the lady she is - all in her stride, and if she had any nervers herself she didn't show them.

The gathered adventurers suprised me somewhat, as I was expecting a greater reaction than we got - most didn't actually notice what was happening, which I feel made things go a lot better.

Thankfully after some time in the Inn I was able to slip away and have some quiet time with Vardian in the gardens of Caer Laledan. It is not going to be an easy journey, and I am glad that Vardian appreciates this - I just hope she has the strength and courage to endure this difficulty.

Life, and indeed love, is something that bothers all of the inhabitants of Valorn, including this King.

Since my time in Valorn there have been times when I have felt an attraction to somebody, only to find they have chosen another partner to share their affections with.

Since becoming King I have had no shortage of female admirers, but at times it always seemed as if they want something other than just me - power, fame, wealth or just something to brag about. I have always maintained that if I chose a partner it would be a lady who wanted Deek before the King.

Recently I had the fortune to meet a young lady who is humble as well as selfless. She trains hard and is generous to a fault to those around her.

Yesterday I managed to get some privacy in the grounds of Caer Laleldan with this young lady and made my feelings clear for her. To my relief she recipricated the feelings.

It will come as a complete suprise to some but others will not be shocked by the news. Some will be deeply jealous and upset at this revelation, yet I hope they can see their way to being happy for both myself and the lady who has captured my heart... the lady Vardian.

Today there was another Demon Raid on Caer Laleldan. It seems that the forces of the Dark Lord are getting stronger again.

I found one of these foul creatures in the Throne Room, but alas I am unable to match the strength of one of these beasts on my own, and I was slain by the monster. Thankfully the brave adventurers of the land rushed to clear Caer Laleldan, and once again the area returned to tranquility.

It is following these raids that my thoughts find themselves resting on something that has been on my mind for a while, and that is my role in this land of ours.

I have found that I am the true heir to the land of Valorn, but for what reason? I know very little about this place, although I learn more with every passing day, but it still bothers me that I know nothing of my past. What of my family - were they aware of my lineage.

Could it be possible that my family fled from Valorn during the fall of the Golden Age, and fate has ordained me to return and guide the people to victory over the Demon Lord? If this is the case then I must continue to do the best I can for the people of Valorn.

As with most thoughts there are questions within questions. What of the future of the land, and of myself?

Sometimes I feel as if this role I find myself in is somewhat of a curse rather than a blessing. Many turn to me for advice and guidance but who do I turn to for advice, guidance or support?

Somebody kind and gentle asked me if it was nice being so popular recently - it is nice, but there are times when it is equally as nice being able to blend into the crowd, or to spend quite time with polite company getting to know somebody better.

All the text is written in a fine, flowing script, using a finely crafted quill pen. No scratches or splatters are present, which would hint to the use of a cheap or badly made quill...

I suppose there comes a time when even I, the High King of Valorn, should sit and contemplate recording his thoughts for posterity, and for future generations to read.

Although these thoughts are meant to be private, there will come a time when the whole land will know of what I have written - hopefully this will be long after my demise, but with the land of Valorn being as it is, somebody may get to read it whilst I am still alive.

And so it has come to pass that a stranger to the shore of Valorn has risen to become High King and true heir to the throne. I have often sat and comtemplated my past. I remember little of my life before I came to Valorn.

Apparently I was found washed up on the southern beach, not far from the town of Dundee. From there I was taken to see the Cleric in Dundee, and was nursed back to health. I have always known that I was different from the way I spoke, and the way I presented myself. I became an adventurer like many others, fighting to save the land from the evil tide that washed over it.

Through deeds and actions the people of the land saw fit to call me High Lord. Even from that day I did not know that I was the true heir. It was only with the emergence of Caer Laleldan, and the knowledge that I could pass through the magical barrier there that I realised that I was the true heir.

Some have speculated that during the fall of the Golden Age the king of the land fled elsewhere, and that fate drew his offspring back to Valorn, whilst others see me as a charlatan and false king.

Whichever people believe I will try to be a fair and just King. Although I have no true power over the land, many adventurers have sworn to protect me. It is for these adventurers that I chose to rule with honesty and fairness, and not by fear.
